You need to pressure jet it properly and oil it when it needs it. If you do it once properly, it shouldn't need doing again for 5 years or so.
I'd use Danish Oil and ignore the products called Decking Oil etc.
Don't varnish, as this can lift. Oil soaks in and stays there, making it impossible for water to penetrate.

Scud I get the same response - it's because they never venture out the garden in the winter. Mine doesn't know where we keep the dustbin.........
Unfortunately it will only change when she does the slide of death across the algae covered planks and falls on her arse. You will get your paving then.

The arse-clown who owned this house before me put it all in, not the best weather over here for it. I'm tempted to rip it all up and pave but Mrs Scud likes it and gets a strop on when I mention tearing it up.
I think I might go down the sabotage route so I can get rid of it and get the entire back-garden redone

1964 has it about right. It looks great new but soon turns into a old looking pile of shit. Nice quality slabs last and look great for years if laid well.My choice anyway.

Re: Decking

i have a large decked area in my garden. I apply a coat of decking oil 2 or 3 times a year. you can get these long armed sponges to apply it, so its very easy, takes me an hour or so, not much different to moping a floor.
I've had the decking about 5 years now and it's fine.

I agree with '64: paving is much better looking and long lasting ( if done properly). Decking is for hot dry countries.

B&Q now do decking with Astro turf strips on it.
So you can now dig your lawn up, lay decking and have an artificial lawn on it...................

It’s pressure treated with moisture resistant chemicals like garden fence panels so the most cost effective treatment is to leave it and let it weather. Once it’s had its day just replace it. Beats treating it once a year,

Gass and plants attract insects, including beautiful insects like flutterbys. Insects attrack birds. Surely there is nothing men can build that is anything like as beautiful to look at as even te most mundane object in nature?
Rip it up. Plant stuff.

Re: Decking

Can never understand the obsession with decking, unless you live on a hill.
It rots It cracks It warps It shrinks It had to be painted
Lay a nice slab/block patio instead, practically maintenance free

Take a sledge hammer. Smash it to pieces. Lay a good bit of lawn underneath or maybe a nice shrubbery.
That's you sorted.
